SPECIAL PROJECTS
Books for Babies
During Kansas R.E.A.D. Week, T-shirts with the design "READ TO ME" and a board book are delivered to two hospitals in Topeka. Included is a letter to the parents explaining the importance of reading to their babies.
Professional Growth
Each year, a donation is made to the Curriculum Resource Center, Washburn University. The donation is used for the purchase of paperback copies of a children's literature title to be checked out by practicum students, student teachers and area educators.
Scholarships
The Council sponsors two $250.00 scholarships for graduate students studying in the area of reading/language arts.
Teachers as Readers
Each year the council chooses a book to study. The council pays for half the purchase price of the books for members who choose to participate.
