Kansas Reading Educator Award Guidelines
Eligibility:
 
*
Educators of preschool through college, at public, private or parochial, vocational technical, community colleges, junior colleges, and universities.
 
*
Minimum of three years membership in KRA.
 
*
Minimum of ten years experience in the field of education.
Criteria:
 
*
Nominee has made a special contribution/ achievement in the area of reading.
 
*
The nominee must be outstanding in one or more of the following areas:
   
>
Fosters appreciation for reading/literature.
   
>
Uses exemplary techniques/strategies in reading instruction.
   
>
Conducts reading instruction to meet special needs of students.
   
>
Implements innovative reading programs for students.
   
>
Provides leadership for improving reading instruction.
Nomination Procedures:

Approval of nominee by local council
*
Collect data to verify contributions/achievements of nominee. This data can be letters of support. (Limit to 4 letters - one from each of the following categories: administrator, colleague, student or parent, and KRA local council that nominee is a member of.)
*
Signature of nominee on application form to confirm KRA membership and experience in teaching.
*
Submit information to the Chairperson of the Outstanding kansas Reading Educator committee by deadline.

All nominations must be postmarked by February 15, 2008. Mail nomination information to Mary Collins, 126 N. Chautauqua, Council Grove, KS 66846. The award will presented at the annual KRA Conference.
**Nomination of an individual for this award will count as two optional items on the Sunflower Merit Award.**
