Administrators and Reading

Promote membership of administrators in KRA.
Bill Martin, Jr. Picture Book Award
To honor Bill Martin, Jr., an internationally renowned Kansas author of children's picture books; to promote in young children, an appreciation for good literature; to commend outstanding authors/illustrators of children's picture books; and to encourage involvement in promoting quality picture books.
Bylaws
Review the bylaws of the Kansas Reading Association to determine if they meet current and foreseeable needs.
Exemplary Reading Program Award
Recognize qualified Kansas schools as being exemplary in their efforts to improve reading/language arts. This school is also recognized at the national level by the International Reading Association.
Finance
Work to produce a budget which is presented to the Executive Board and Board of Directors for approval.
IRA Plains Regional
Plan and implement a quality, professional International Reading Association's regional conference.
Kansas R.E.A.D. Month
Select a date and theme for this special week, then promote and disseminate material across the state.
Legislative
Activate the KRA legislative network when the need arises. Contact the Kansas State Department of Education, State Board of Education and legislators as needed.
Literacy Award
Recognize those helping to promote literacy in the corporate, professional and volunteer categories.
Local Council Grants
Recognize and grant funds to local councils for implementing a project of merit which promotes literacy.
Long Range Planning
Review the mission statement and goals of KRA.
Membership
Promote membership in KRA, collect dues and keep records.
N.I.E. Week
Develop and promote NIE Week programs at the local council level.
Nominating
Secure nominees for the positions open on the Executive Board.
KRA Outstanding Educator Award
Recognize a KRA member as an educator who is exemplary in their efforts to promote literacy. For guidelines, click here.
Parents and Reading
Promote and publicize the importance of the parents' role in the reading achievement of their children.
KRA Promotional Materials
Develop and market materials which will promote KRA.
Public Relations
Promote KRA by publication of KRA activities, producing an image brochure and maintaining a current web page.
State Conference
Plan and implement a quality, professional state conference for KRA members and others.
Studies and Research
Recognize educators for their published and unpublished research manuscripts in the area of reading.
Sunflower Merit Award
Recognize local councils for their activities in promote literacy. Seven required items and six of twenty-four optional items need to be completed to meet the criteria for this award.
